Program Description
The Radiologic Technician Assistant program places emphasis on maintaining adequate supplies in exam rooms, handling of oxygen tanks, ability to process CR & DR, knowledge of PACS system, transporting patients to/from all imaging areas, greeting patients and assist in preparing the patients for exams, preparation of the examination rooms, and dismissing the patient after the exam is completed giving any special instructions needed.

Meet assessment requirements
If a student transfers from another Radiologic Technician Assistant Program, 50% of the program must be taken at SCTC.
Applicants are accepted into the Radiologic Technician Assistant Program fall semester (August). Applicants must submit current Psychological Services Bureau (PSB) Health Occupations Aptitude Examination scores along with the Allied Health Application and current ARRT card. Should there be more qualified students competing than available spaces, candidates are admitted based on the results of the PSB HOAE Exam for program entrance. Spaces are filled from the highest score downward until the maximum enrollment total has been reached.
PSB Scores cannot be more than a year old. The PSB can only be taken twice within the competition period. Program faculty recommend students take the examination at Southern Crescent Technical College. It is administered in the Community Service Building and the results are accessed online by program faculty. Southern Crescent Technical College administers the PSB test every Monday. The PSB schedule of dates and times is located online and students must complete and submit the noncredit registration form at https://www.sctech.edu/bcp/community-and-continuing-education/ce-registration/ and email leann.white@sctech.edu or pay at the cashier window. Please only call 770-228-7364 for any other questions. Seating is limited and available seats fill up fast, especially in the spring semester. If a student takes the PSB HOAE at a different testing site, it must be the 3rd edition and all attempts must be transferred to Southern Crescent Technical College via PSB, at an additional cost to the student. The student will be responsible for notifying program faculty, of his/her intent to compete, by completing the Allied Health Application no later than one month following the end of the spring semester and PSB Exam results have been submitted. Program faculty will NOT accept late submissions of Allied Health Applications or PSB Exam results. If the student is not accepted and wishes to re-compete the following year, the student must resubmit a new Allied Health Application and new PSB Exam results. Allied Health Applications are available on the Southern Crescent Technical College website at https://www.sctech.edu/programs/allied-health-program-application/. There is no waiting list!
The College accepts credit from the College Board's College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). A grade of EXP is assigned for awarded CLEP credit. Quality points are not awarded for CLEP, therefore, courses with CLEP credit are not calculated into the GPA during the competitive admissions process.
NOTE: Grading standards for Radiologic Technician Assistant courses are very stringent. For students to progress to the next course of study, a minimum grade of “C” must be achieved in every RADT course. Students must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to remain in the program.
Readmission Policy
If a student withdraws for any reason, the student may be allowed to re-enter the program the following year at the point in which the student withdrew from the program unless the student withdraws prior to the completion of the first semester of the program. This courtesy is extended only once. Upon readmission into the Radiologic Technician Assistant Program, the student must prove content retention and complete additional requirements as deemed necessary by the program faculty. NOTE: A student who has been or becomes convicted of a felony or misdemeanor may be accepted into the Radiologic Technician Assistant Program as long as there are program clinical affiliates that will allow that student in for rotations. However, such a conviction may cause a student to be ineligible to take the national examination. Permission to sit for the national examination rests solely with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). If a student is concerned about qualifying to take the ARRT examination because of the student’s record, the student may choose to prequalify by visiting the ARRT website, www.arrt.org, before starting the core classes or the program. The student should also notify the program faculty prior to starting the program to ensure there are clinical sites that will allow the student to rotate through to meet clinical requirements.
