Transfer Credit Equivalencies, Credit by Examination, and Prior Learning Assessment
A student must complete at least 25% of his or her program credit hours at Southern Crescent Technical College in order to be awarded a diploma, degree, or certificate from Southern Crescent Technical College. The 25% does not include advanced standing through the transfer of credit, military credit, credit by exemption, credit by experience, or articulation.
Transfer Credit Equivalencies
Southern Crescent Technical College awards transfer degree-level coursework earned through any college or university accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, Southern Crescent Technical College reserves the right to accept or refuse transfer credit on a case-by-case basis for any level coursework (degree, diploma, or certificate) earned through a non-regionally accredited institution.
Evaluations of college transcripts for transfer credit are only completed when a student has a current and “accepted” admissions application, meaning the student has applied for a current term and deemed accepted for respective term by the Admissions Office. Evaluations of college transcripts may take 10-15 business days for completion, not including weekends, holidays, or school closures, and during “peak time periods” may take longer.
Students who wish to have prior college credit evaluated for transfer or intend on using a funding source that requires the evaluation of prior college credit, such as HOPE Scholarship or Veterans Educational Benefits, must submit all post-secondary transcripts along with their admission application.
Courses transferred from the University System of Georgia and private colleges accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges may be viewed at this link: TCSG-USG General Education Course Transfer Chart. The list of courses shown is not a final or complete listing. Check this website frequently for updates.
Students with International Coursework

· Students who wish to have evaluations mailed directly to them must not open the evaluation. Any documents that are not in a sealed envelope or emailed directly to the student will not be considered official and will not be accepted for transfer credit.
· Coursework must be equivalent in both content and credit hours to those required in the Southern Crescent Technical College program, and
· A grade of C or better earned.
Credit by Examination
Southern Crescent Technical College awards credit by examination for the programs listed below. Examinations recognized by Southern Crescent Technical College and the minimum scores required for credit are provided.
Prior Learning Assessment (Experiential Credit)
Southern Crescent Technical College recognizes that learning can take place in a variety of settings other than the College classroom. Students who have completed documented training through law enforcement, the military, or similar organizations that provide transcripts from the training may be eligible for college credit. Only current students who have successfully completed at least three (3) hours of credit at Southern Crescent Technical College are eligible to request credit through experience. Students wishing to be granted credit through experience should obtain a Request for Credit for Experiential Learning Form from the Academic Affairs Office. Along with the form, the student must submit official copies of transcripts that list all training. Training hours must approximate the contact hours for the requested college course. The program coordinator will review the documentation. If all requirements are met, the document will be approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs / Designee, a grade of EXP is assigned and credits are awarded. Quality points are not calculated into the GPA. Experiential credits most likely will not transfer to other colleges; although, transferability is always up to the receiving college. There is no fee for credits earned through experience.
