Program Description
The FIE3- Fire & Emergency Services Occupation degree program was designed for individuals currently employed in the public safety areas of fire service and emergency medical services seeking a degree for promotional purposes. Our FIE3 is not an entry level option. Southern Crescent Technical College offers two entry level diploma options that will bridge to degrees.
Prospective students already certified or licensed as Firefighters (explained further) who wish to complete degree requirements may receive experiential credit (prior learning credits) with documentation. Southern Crescent Technical College can only grant prior learning credits for ProBoard (NPQ) National Professional Qualifications and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certificates. For these certifications to be accepted, they must have the proper visible and legible seals and certification numbers.
The College accepts credit from the College Board's College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). A grade of EXP is assigned for awarded CLEP credit. Quality points are not awarded for CLEP, therefore, courses with CLEP credit are not calculated into the GPA during the admissions process.
Student must present copies of both certifications (NPQ/IFSAC FF 1 & FF 2) to the Fire Science Technology Department Chair to be granted prior learning credits for the following FIRE courses: Individuals without certifications will have to take the Fire courses to receive credit.
Public Safety Employment Awareness Statement
A criminal history will not hinder a student from receiving a certificate, diploma, or degree in a Public Safety program from Southern Crescent Technical College; however, a student with a criminal background may be denied employment in the public safety field.
The following is a suggested path to complete this program in a timely manner. An individual’s path to completion may be different based on institutional and personal factors affecting his/her academic progress.
Note: While all courses are offered, they may vary by term and campus. See the program advisor for any questions.
